Hawks, Warriors advance to Class 9B semifinals

COLMAN – The Hawks moved to 10-0 and kept their hopes for back-to-back state titles alive with a 30-8 Class 9B quarterfinal win over Faulkton Area on Thursday night.

Colman-Egan led 8-0 after a quarter; 14-8 at halftime and 30-8 through three to improve to 10-0 on the season and set up a semifinal matchup with Castlewood, a 54-0 winner over Wall.

Kade Groos ran for 106 yards on 15 carries and scored three times while Bodee Groos completed 1-of-5 passing attempts for 20 yards and a TD to Keith Crisp to account for the Hawks scoring.

Kade Groos also led the defense with 10 tackles as Alec Landis finished with nine stops. Trey McKnight contributed seven tackles and a fumble recovery; Crisp had six tackles and a quarterback sack; and Chase Hemmer chipped in with five tackles and a pass interception.

Gannon Martinmaas led the Trojans, 5-4, with 125 yards on 12 carries with one touchdown while Derek Heitmann rushed eight times for 64 yards and a score, to go along with a 2-of-10 passing performance for eight yards.

• Castlewood 54, Wall 0

WALL – Castlewood rolled up 462 yards of rushing to rout previously unbeaten Wall, 54-0, in Class 9B quarterfinal action.

After scoring a safety with 3:09 left in the first quarter, the Warriors pushed their lead to 9-0 after a quarter when Kaleb DeKam broke off a 53-yard run to paydirt and Wyatt Mack kicked the extra point.

Kaden Eng scored four TDs in the second quarter on runs of 46, 82, 48 and 3 yards as Kevin Munoz converted a two-point conversion run on the first score as Castlewood led 35-0 at halftime.

Eng broke off a 59-yarder to open the second half before Brandon Benike connected with DeKam on a 5-yard TD pass with 5:32 left in the quarter. Mack PAT kick made it 48-0 through three.

The Warriors ended the game 9 seconds into the fourth when DeKam scored from 9 yards out for the 54-0 final.

Eng amassed 253 yards on 16 carries while DeKam tacked on 139 on four touches and added five yards on one reception.

Justin Heyn led the Warrior defense with 12 tackles as Kaiden Brandenburger added five stops.

Trey Elshere ran for 59 yards on 16 carries for Wall, which finished its season with a 9-1 mark.

Castlewood, 9-1, travels to Colman next Friday to take on the Hawks in the semifinals. Colman-Egan won 38-5 over the Warriors in Week 8 of the regular season.
