Henry J. “Hank” Shay, 49, of Watertown, formerly of Estelline, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2016, at the Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls. 

Funeral services are  at 2 p.m. Friday at the Estelline Arena, in Estelline. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Geise Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

 Henry Jayson Shay was born on Jan. 27, 1967, in Long Island, N.Y., the son of Susan Riehl. He attended schools and graduated in Long Island. Following graduation, he drove taxi for a cab company in Long Island. In 1991, he moved to Sioux Falls. He married Michelle Roling on May 18, 1996, in Madison. The couple moved to Estelline in October of 1999. Hank worked for Dykhouse Painting in Brookings before starting HJS Painting in 2006 and ran his business until health reasons forced him to retire.

 Hank loved sports and following his children in their sporting events. He was very supportive of his children and took great interest in all activities and hobbies they participated in. He always encouraged his children to be the best they could be, no matter the activity and was extremely supportive of their friends, as well. Hank also loved music, especially listening to his daughter sing at a variety of places. He coached youth baseball over the years in Estelline and Clear Lake.

 He is survived by his children, Amanda Shay, of Roseville, Minn., Benjamin Shay, of Brookings, Grace, Noah and Joshua Shay, all of Estelline; his former wife, Michelle Shay of Estelline and two sisters, Denise (Lou) Vuono and Debra Mead, both of Pennsylvania.

 Hank was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Susan and Robert Buckley and one son in infancy, Gabriel Shay.
