ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota State’s Alexa Hepner was named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday.

Hepner played all 180 minutes for a defensive unit that posted two shutouts, allowing just six shots on goal en route to claiming the league’s regular-season crown. The Jackrabbits beat South Dakota 2-0 on Thursday and North Dakota State 4-0 on Sunday.

The junior from Prior Lake, Minn., has teamed with the rest of the SDSU squad to post nine consecutive wins (including six consecutive shutouts) and extend the team’s unbeaten streak to a school-record 11 matches. The Jackrabbits gave up just one goal in conference play.

This is the first career weekly honor for Hepner, and SDSU’s eighth award this season.

The top-seeded Jackrabbits (11-4-3, 7-0) take on fourth-seeded North Dakota State in the Summit League Women’s Soccer Championship semifinals at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Fargo, N.D.
