High school boys golf: Colman-Egan victorious in Region 2B Meet

DELL RAPIDS — The Colman-Egan boys’ golf team won the Region 2B Golf Meet on Tuesday at Rocky Run Golf Course. The Hawks took home the title after shooting a 235 collectively.

Wessington Springs came in second with a score of 251 and Deubrook Area and Howard tied for third (259). De Smet rounded out the top five (262).

C-E’s Camden Schmidt and Taylor Kriech finished first and second, respectively. Schmidt shot a 76 and Kriech shot a 77. Deubrook Area’s Gavin Landmark came in third (78) and Howard’s Lane Hodges finished in fourth (79). Wessington Springs’ Blake Larson came in fifth (80).

Sawyer Uhing also qualified for the State Tournament for Colman-Egan as he tied for seventh (82). Jake Whitehouse just missed the State qualification as he shot a 94 and the final three qualifiers shot a 93.

Deubrook Area had one other golfer in the top 15 as Connor Andrews came in 11th with an 85. Anders Saro shot a 96 and Cody Schulz shot a 100.

There were five other area schools at the Region Meet in Arlington, Estelline/Hendricks, Iroquois/Lake Preston, Elkton-Lake Benton and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland. Arlington finished in eighth as the Cardinals shot 289 as a team. Spencer Heflin was the only Cardinal that qualified for State as he shot an 87. Bryce Heflin shot a 95.

Estelline/Hendricks came in 10th with a 300. Davin Carlson was the lone qualifier for the Redhawks and he shot a 93. Braxton Saathoff shot a 98.

Iroquois/Lake Preston came and Elkton-Lake Benton tied for 11th (315) and ORR came in 13th (325). ORR had one state qualifier as Braylon Oftedal came in 10th with an 84. ILP and ELB did not have anyone qualify. Ryne Green was the top finisher for the Sharks and he shot a 97 and Lane Schindler led the Elks with a 99.

Girls

Chester Area won the region title on the girls’ side as the Flyers shot a 267 as a team. Deubrook was not far behind in second as the Dolphins shot a 271. Howard came in third (272), Estelline/Hendricks came in fourth (300) and Dell Rapids St. Mary finished in fifth (327).

Deubrook Area’s Alison Andrews won the individual tournament after shooting a 79. Howard’s Piper Thompson and Chester’s Jadyn McDonald tied for second after shooting an 84. Deubrook’s Bailey Landmark came in fourth (86) and Chester’s Ayla McDonald came in fifth (88).

Taylor Ekern was the other state qualifier for the Dolphins as she came in 15th with a 106. Brynnlee Hanson shot a 112 for Deubrook.

Estelline/Hendricks had two state qualifiers in Sadie Johnson and Ayla Texley. Johnson came in seventh with a 90 and Texley finished in 11th with a 97. Rachel Hexem shot a 113 for E/H.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland came in seventh with a team score of 342. Hayden Oftedal was the lone qualifier for ORR and she finished in sixth (90). Rili Hartman shot a 112 for the Raiders.

Arlington came in 10th with a 388. The Cardinals did not have a state qualifier as Dakota Flanery led them with a 120.

The Class B boys and girls State Tournament is scheduled for June 5-6 at Prairie Winds Golf Club in Watertown.
