

High school cross-country: Chris Gruenhagen, Jeani Vincent named Coaches of the Year

BROOKINGS — Brookings cross-country coach Chris Gruenhagen was named the Class AA Area 2/East Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year. Arlington’s Jeani Vincent was also honored in the east section as she was named the Class B Coach of the Year.
Gruenhagen and Vincent were joined by 16 other coaches in the South Dakota Cross Country Track and Field Coaches Association Coaches of the Year Awards.
Eric Towsend of Milbank and Tammie Paulson of Clark/Willow Lake were named the Coaches of the Year in Class A in Area 1. Jessica Larson of Potter County was the Coach of the Year in Class B in Area 1 and Josh Schmeichel of Milbank was named the Area 1 Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Class AA Girls Area 2 Coach of the Year was Brandon Valley’s Tony Thoreson. Tiffany Wendiling was the Class A Coach of the Year in that area. Harrisburg’s Eric Baird and Lennox’s Paul McVey were the Assistant Coaches of the Year in Area 2.
Chamberlain’s Holly Evans was the Class A Coach of the Year in Area 3. Lonnie Klundt of Gregory was the Class B honoree in that area and Kimball/White Lake’s Emily Dowart was the Assistant Coach of the Year.
In Area 4/West the Class AA Boys Coach of the Year was Strugis Brown’s Blake Proefrock and the girls coach was Spearfish’s Andy VanDeest. The Class A honoree was Hill City’s Joesph Noyes and Philip’s Ralph Kroetch represented Class B. Hill City’s Jared Noyes and Strugis Brown’s Scott Peterson were the Assistant Coaches of the Year in that area.
