

High school cross-country: Sioux Valley teams earn top-five finishes at Chamberlain Invite

CHAMBERLAIN — The Sioux Valley Cossacks had a successful afternoon as the girls’ team finished fourth and the boys’ team finished fifth at the Chamberlain Invite at the Chamberlain Country Club on Thursday afternoon.
The girls’ team finished in fourth place with a total score of 27 points which was behind first-place Chamberlain (12 points), second-place Potter County (23 points) and third-place Kimball/White Lake (25). Ethan/Parkston rounded out the top five with a total of 72 points.
Liberty Trygstad was the top finisher for the Cossacks girls’ team, earning seventh place with a time of 20:46. Talya Vincent finished 11th place with a time of 21:21 and Maci Licht finished in 12th place with a time of 21:25.
Ava Gatzke finished in 23rd place for the Cossacks with a time of 22:53 and Quynn Nielson finished 31st with a time of 23:38.
The boys’ team finished in fifth place with a team total of 75 points. Philip finished first with 15 points, Miller finished second with 18 points. Ethan/Parkston finished third with 41 points and McLaughlin finished fourth with 62 points.
Carson Wosje was the Cossacks’ top finisher in the boys’ race, placing 13th with a time of 18:18. Brady Hiltunen finished 37th with a time of 19:44, Carter Sapp finished 41st with a time of 19:50, and the duo of Levi Axtell and Bret Milton finished tied for 53rd with a time of 20:37.
The Cossacks will return to action on Monday when they take part in the Deuel Invitational.
