

High school girls tennis: Brookings Bobcats fall to Sioux Falls Christian

SIOUX FALLS — The Brookings girls’ tennis team was swept by Sioux Falls Christian in a dual on Monday as the Bobcats lost 9-0.
In singles action, Nancy Yang was the closest to victory for the ‘Cats as she fell in the No. 5 match to Elsje VanderDussen. Yang lost the first set 6-4 but bounced back in the second set with a 7-5 win. She then lost in the third set 10-6.
Yuki Zahn lost in the No. 4 singles match to Jade TenHaken 7-5, 6-4 and Sophie Tanner fell to Elsa Johnson in the No. 1 singles match 7-5, 6-3. Elle Schulte-Coplan lost the No. 2 match 6-1, 6-0 to Halle Karmazin and Anika Hooda lost the No. 3 match to Anna Westenberg 7-5, 6-1.
In doubles action, Tanner and Schulte-Coplan lost 6-0, 6-2 to Johnson and TenHaken in the No. 1 match. Hooda and Zhu fell to Karmazin and Westenberg 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 match and Yang and Bertrand lost the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-2 to VanderDussen and Lemstra.
Brookings is 4-15 on the season. The Bobcats regular season is coming to close as they’ll compete at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Invitational on Sept. 25-26 at Griffin Park in Pierre. The state tournament will be in Sioux Falls on Oct. 5-6.
