High school tennis: Brookings Bobcats, Flandreau Fliers, Sioux Valley Cossacks compete in Watertown invite
WATERTOWN — Brookings, Sioux Valley and Flandreau competed at the Watertown Boys Golf Invite at Cattail Crossing on Monday afternoon.
The Bobcats led the three area schools, coming in eighth with a team score of 40 over par. Flandreau came in 11th with a score of 60 over par and Sioux Valley came in 12th with a score of 64 over.
Tournament host Watertown won the tournament as the Arrows shot four over par as a team. Pierre came in second (+7) and Harrisburg finished in third (+18). The Watertown Purple team came in fourth (+26) and Mitchell rounded out the top five (+30).
Rhy Heiberger led the way for the Bobcats as he shot an eight-over 80 and tied for 22nd. Issak Earley tied for 29th (+10) and Austin Clark and Cale Jones tied for 36th (+11). Tyson Lunn and Jase Bauer were not included in the team scoring, but Lunn tied for 50th (+14) and Bauer came in 60th (+18).
Kaden Burshiem was the top finisher for Flandreau and he tied for 18th after shooting seven-over. Alfie Henderson tied for 44th (+12) and Jon Burshiem tied for 56th (+17). Hunter Bushkofsy was the final golfer for the team score and he finished in 67th (+24). Luke Sheppard tied for 70th (+28) and Brant LeBrun came in 73rd (+31).
Tate Steffensen led Sioux Valley as he tied for 29th (+10). Chris Moberd tied for 50th (+14) and Jack Optiz tied for 56th (+17). Nathan Larson tied for 64th (+23) and Patrick Quale came in 75th (+33). Trentyn Schmit was the final golfer for the Cossacks and he came in 77th (+42).
Brookings will play in the Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet next on Sept. 25 at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton. Sioux Valley will play in the Sisseton Invitational on Thursday.
