Posted

The 2022 high school volleyball season has concluded, which means it’s time to announce this year’s All-Register volleyball teams.

The team is comprised 14 players from area teams including Brookings, Sioux Valley, Deubrook Area, Elkton-Lake Benton, Arlington, Estelline-Hendricks, Colman-Egan, Flandreau, and Oldham-Ramona Rutland.

This year’s team features Elkton-Lake Benton senior Rachael Krog and juniors Tevan Erickson and Kylie Ramlo, Colman-Egan’s Daniela Lee and Berkley Groos, Oldham Ramona-Rutland junior Julia Trygstad, Estelline/Hendricks juniors Sadie Johnson and Kenzy Beare, Sioux Valley senior Ashley Bjerke and sophomore Adison Renkly, Brookings senior Gracie Adamson, Arlington senior Natalie Burns, Deubrook Area senior Ellie Koenig and Flandreau junior Abby Schoeberl

Rachael Krog – Elkton Lake-Benton, Senior – Outside Hitter

Krog helped lead the Elks to a 33-5 record and a Runner-Up finish at the Class A State Tournament last weekend in Sioux Falls. She is Co-Register Player of the Year with teammate Tevan Erickson and there will be a full feature on the two teammates in Monday’s Register.

Krog racked up 359 kills, 477 digs, 21 blocks, 29 aces and a 96 serve percentage in helping lead the Lady Elks to become the Class A runner-up to Sioux Falls Christian.

She was a five-year starter for ELB, playing three years as a libero and two as an outside hitter. She was a 2019 Dakota Valley Conference Honorable Mention and was an Adrenaline Volleyball Rising Star, made the AVCA Phenom list, and was Dakota Valley All-Conference in 2020.

She was an Adrenaline Future 50 Athlete, made the AVCA Phenom List, was a DVC All-Conference selection, a team captain, an All-Register selection, and made the Class A All-Tournament team in 2021 and capped it off with a stellar senior season.

She made the Adrenaline Future 50 Athlete list for the third time last season as well as landing on the AVCA/UA Watchlist. She was a team captain, a DVC All-Conference selection, made the Class A All-Tournament team, was a Class A All-State Honorable Mention, and was a South Dakota Volleyball All-Star Athlete. Krog was Co-MVP of the DVC with Erickson as well.

Krog finishes her career with 104 aces, a 95 serving percentage, 710 kills, 14 solo blocks, 28 block assists, and 2,201 digs.

“Rachael is a phenomenal volleyball player and a huge contributor to Elkton-Lake Benton’s back-to-back state tournament appearances,” ELB head coach Melissa Erickson said. “She is incredible on defense and determined to play every ball. Rachael is especially capable of reading defenders and putting herself in the right position to play the ball which is why we can keep a lot of balls in play.”

Melissa Erickson also praised Krog’s ability defensively, first as a libero and after her transition to outside hitter.

“Rachel is not only solid in the backcourt, but she also puts up a big solid block in the back row,” Erickson said. “Undoubtedly our best serve receiver, Rachael spends five rotations passing the ball and her consistency establishes the Lady Elks as an offensive threat. Rachel has demonstrated herself as a solid all-around hitter.”

Tevan Erickson – Elkton Lake-Benton, Junior – Middle Hitter

Erickson had 1,022 assists, 355 digs, 68 aces, 59 kills, and 73 blocks for the Lady Elks this season. For her career, she has 295 kills, 119 aces, a serving percentage of 95 percent, 25 solo blocks, 52 block assists, and 2,116 set assists.

This is her second year as a starter and was named an Adrenaline Rising Star in 2020. She was named to the AVCA Phenom List, was an Adrenaline Rising Star, a Taco John’s Athlete of the Week, a DVC All-Conference selection, a 2021 All-Register Team selection, a Class A State All-Tournament Team Selection and a second-team All-State selection in 2021.

This past season, Erickson was a DVC All-Conference selection, the DVC Co-MVP along with her teammate Rachael Krog, a Class A All-Tournament Team selection and a Class A First-Team All-State Selection.

“Tevin is an invaluable asset to the Lady Elks volleyball team and the key to our successful offense,” ELB head coach Melissa Erickson said. “Tevan’s speed, court awareness, and accuracy allow her to distribute the ball with her precise placement of all types of sets. Tevan sets the tempo of our entire offense with her ability to simultaneously judge a pass, consider her hitters, read the defense and successfully call the most optimal play.”

Kylie Ramlo – Elkton-Lake Benton, Junior – Middle Hitter

Ramlo had 173 kills, 274 digs, 116 blocks, 37 assists and 60 aces for the Lady Elks this season. This was her second year as a starter and has been a DVC Honorable Mention in each of the past two seasons.

“Kylie is a strong asset to our team by contributing to both offense and defense,” Erickson said. “Kylie is quick at the net, making her a significant threat in the middle hitter position. She reads the ball exceptionally well and anticipates its movement, allowing her numerous touches whether offensively or defensively. Those touches either stop the ball or slow the ball down for our defense to pick up. During her back row rotations, Kylie’s length and readability keep the ball in play for our front-row hitters and she is a reliable passer on the serve receive. Kylie is a player we can consistently count on no matter where she’s at on the court.”

Daniela Lee – Colman-Egan, Junior – Outside Hitter

Lee led the Hawks with 268 kills, 66 blocks and 33 aces to lead the Hawks to the State Tournament this season and also finished second on the team with 481 digs. For her career, she has 459 kills, 99 blocks, 938 digs and 56 aces with a 96.4 serving percentage.

“Daniela is an all-around volleyball player who excels in any position,” C-E head coach Abigail Dockter said. “She is very athletic and versatile, allowing her to play in any position and be successful. Daniela is our go-to offensive threat when we need it and someone we can rely on to send an aggressive attack over no matter the situation. She is a 4.0 student who is very competitive both in the classroom and on the court.”

Berkley Groos – Colman-Egan, Senior – Outside Hitter

Groos finished the season with 179 kills, 27 blocks, a team-high 536 digs and 19 aces. She has 186 kills, 27 blocks, 948 digs and 45 aces with a 93.7 serving percentage during her career.

“Berkley is an all-around player who played in the front row for the first time for us this season,” Dockter said. “She was our leader out on the court who worked hard no matter the situation. She was our most reliable player in coverage. She is a very coachable and is good at adjusting against any team. She is a 4.0 student who works very hard in the classroom, which carries over onto the court.

Julia Tygstad – Oldham-Ramona Rutland, Junior – Middle Hitter

Trygstad had 436 kills, 67 blocks, 25 aces, and 249 digs last season for the Raiders and was a selection for the DVC All-Conference Team in her first season as a starter. She earned 15 or more kills in 16 of 29 matches this season and earned her 1,000th career kill in the first round of regional playoffs.

“She is a coach on the court and a leader in the classroom,” ORR head coach Kaylee Stratton said. “Her athletic ability and strong work ethic allow her to jump up at the net and place the ball on the other side of the net. Her strength drives her to be a tough player at the net for us.”

Natalie Burns – Arlington, Senior – Outside Hitter

Burns had 256 kills, 318 digs with a 94.2 serve percentage, and was a DVC All-Conference selection for the Cardinals this season. Burns also received the Cardinal Award, which is voted on by team members for effort, attitude, and being a role model for others. She finishes her career with 408 kills, 720 digs, 35 aces, and 33 blocks.

“It was a pleasure to coach Natalie Burns,” Arlington head coach Josie Weber said. “Her positive energy and her optimistic attitude made her a leader out on the floor. She was a six-position player for us as a junior and senior and she always gave her teammates 100 percent. As a senior, she led us in kills and that offense was key in many of our wins.”

Ashley Bjerke – Sioux Valley, Senior – Setter/Middle Hitter

Bjerke had 518 set assists, 63 blocks, 178 kills, 31 aces and 274 digs for the Cossacks this season. She was a Big East Honorable Mention All-Conference selection in 2021 and 2022 and was an Academic All-State selection in 2022.

“Ashley was our general on the court,” Vincent said. “She Orchestrated our offense and the team looked to her for stability and assurance. She gave them the strength and confidence to do their best and the team ran with that energy she instilled in them each and every match. Ashley could play a variety of roles and was not afraid to try something new or different as the matches went on.”
