Historical Society to show film on Daniels

WHITE – The White Area Historical Society will present a documentary film on the life of George Daniels at 7 p.m. Saturday at the McKnight Event Center in White.

NorthStar Paranormal Research created the historical film about Daniels. It shares information about his life, including being born into slavery in Georgia.

Filmmakers discovered and pieced together his enlistment and escape from the Confederate army. That was followed by his enlistment in the Union army and serving under Gen. William Gates LeDuc, who also employed Daniels after the war to accompany his horses back to Minnesota. Daniels continued to work at the estate in Hastings, Minnesota.

Daniels’ new life is showcased with his occupations and his relationships with the LeDuc family. It highlights his transition as he leaves Hastings.

Daniels and his wife, Chloe, moved to White with their children to homestead, becoming pillars in their community. At the time of his death, at the age 90, Daniels and Chloe lived in Watertown. This is also where Chloe Daniels died.

The couple is buried at the Fairview Cemetery in White.

The timeline of his life, including major events as well as personal recorded accounts, help share the character of a dignified gentleman who suffered early in his life and was considered a respectable and exceptional citizen at his death.

Proceeds from $5 tickets for the film go to the society. There will be a question-and-answer session following the film by the NorthStar Research group that produced the film.

“We encourage everyone to come and view the story of the life of this extraordinary man,” organizer Kathy McKinney said.
