BROOKINGS – Leann Horsley, assistant dean for South Dakota State University’s College of Nursing, was recently elected to the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning’s board of directors as vice president for programs.

“Participation on INACSL’s board of directors will provide me further opportunity to grow as a leader,” said Horsley, who is the college’s first-ever JoAnn and Eugene Goodale Nursing Faculty scholar.

She will officially start on the organization’s board of directors June 22 with her two-year term lasting until June 2021.

“I am honored to serve as vice president for programs. Leading educational programs for a membership of more than 2,500 individuals worldwide is both humbling and daunting,” Horsley said. “I have stood on the shoulders of giants who helped me get to where I am today. I will strive in my position to educate and empower others in our efforts to achieve the mission and vision of this organization.”

In this elected position, Horsley will be a source of information to professional organizations, communities in health care and industry partners. She will also oversee committee activities, including the INACSL annual conference.

Horsley is a certified health-care simulation educator, certified nurse educator, TeamSTEPPS master trainer and a previous scholar in the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy.

Before starting at SDSU in August 2017, Horsley worked as an assistant professor at the Loyola University Chicago. She earned a doctorate from the University of Kansas and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Oklahoma.
