Hursey, Flandreau win titles

DELL RAPIDS – The Flandreau girls cross country squad added another team title to their resume as the Fliers won the Dell Rapids Invitational on Wednesday at Rocky Run Golf Course.

Webster Area won the boys’ race over Tea Area as Oldham-Ramona/Rutland took third. Elkton-Lake Benton finished eighth, followed by Flandreau.

Girls

Madeline Hursey earned medalist honors as the junior covered the 5K course in 20 minutes, 24.69 seconds to lead the Fliers to a team total of 25 points.

Hannah Parsley placed ninth overall in 21:40.34; Elizabeth Hursey crossed in 21:43.52 for 11th; and Kathy Parsley rounded out the team score with a 16-place mark of 22:44.47.

Also running for Flandreau were Reese Olinger (21st, 23:08.24) and Cassidy Keith (24th, 23:46.79).

Colman-Egan placed fifth with 87 points as Reese Luze placed fifth in 21:25.07. Jordan Wittrock was 30th in 25:03.34; Hailey Larson finished 42nd (28:32.91) and Olivia Moore was 46th (32:56.79).

Individually, Elkton-Lake Benton’s Callie Otkin ran a 24:50.81 for 29th while teammate Maria Robbins crossed in 27:47.61 for 40th.

Faith VanMeveren led Estelline with a 43rd-place time of 28:57.12 as Aislyn Bortnem (29:12.41) and Mariah Williams (29:39.88) finished 44th and 45th, respectively.

Boys

Maxwell Kuecker led the Bearcats with a medalist time of 17:10.81 as Elkton-Lake Benton’s Miles Harming placed fifth in 18:07.79, followed by Lake Preston’s Rhett McMasters in 18:12.75 for sixth.

ORR’s Connor Spilde placed 11th in 18:49.96 as teammate Justin Casanova (19:05.45) edged Estelline’s Riley Benning (19:06.60) for 15th.

David Allen of Flandreau placed 17th in 19:13.58.

Rounding out the Raiders’ team score were Jack Olson (21st, 19:39.89) and Peyton Roti (27th, 19:38.67). Also running for ORR was Robie Malisch, who placed 29th in 19:42.12.

For the Fliers, Austin Kulm finished 31st in 19:44.21 as teammate Joe Kohl placed 32nd in 19:46.11 and Liam Streitz was 42nd in 20:25.19. Preston Keith (20:36.36) placed 45th and Josh Henderson (52nd) crossed in 21:11.

Riley Hunter (19:59.40) and Cameron Lorden (20:02.16) were 35th and 36th for the Elks, while Marcus Harming’s 43rd-place finish in 20:32.62 closed out ELB’s team score as Caden Grimsrud placed 67th in 23:11.48.

Estelline’s Justin Buschenfeld and Dallis Trego crossed in 20:48.62 and 20:49.85 for 48th and 49th, respectively. Jacob Buschenfeld finished in 21:55.91 for 61st.

Lake Preston’s Corey Jurrens finished 65th in 23:00.48.
