BROOKINGS – Teachers, students, parishioners and other guests gathered on the grounds at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish on Friday to celebrate the  founding of St. Thomas More Catholic School. On Sept. 13, 2017 – to be celebrated annually as Founder’s Day –  Bishop Paul Swain, head of the Diocese of Sioux Falls, blessed the kindergarten class. The school now offers grades K through 2.

Friday’s activities included Mass with the bishop, after which Brookings Mayor Keith Corbett spoke to the students about respect for the American flag. Bishop Swain then blessed the American and Papal flags. A flag raising ceremony followed; those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the National Anthem.
