BROOKINGS – The Brookings Public Library will host the presentation “BBC, But You Do Not Observe: Sherlock Holmes and Sociopathy” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21.

Inspired by the line of dialogue in the BBC Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch, “I’m not a psychopath, I’m a high functioning sociopath,” this 40-minute presentation explores the literary world of Sherlock Holmes and the clinical world dealing with antisocial personality disorder.

This program will be on Zoom and streamed in-person in the library’s Cooper Room. The link to the Zoom meeting can be found on the library’s website and Facebook page.

Presenter Monica Schmidt is a licensed mental health counselor in private practice specializing in the treatment of anxiety and addictions living near Iowa City, Iowa. She is the standing president of The Younger Stamfords, a Sherlock Holmes literary society in Iowa City, and an invested member of The Baker Street Irregulars and The Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes.

This presentation will take place directly after the Brookings Friends of the Library annual meeting held at 5:30 p.m. To learn more about what the Friends do or want to become a member, be sure to attend. The Friends of the Library provided for funding this program.
