Irma Joan Pedersen of Arlington, SD, died Sept. 27, 2021, at Avantara Lake Norden in Lake Norden, SD.
Irma was born on April 5, 1942 to parents Firmin and Viola Alexander of Brookings, SD. On July 9, 1961, Irma married Arden E Pedersen at the Methodist church in Aurora, SD. She described Arden as “Her Rock” and the couple recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Irma spent a few years providing home daycare. When her children were in high school, she made the brave decision to go to nursing school. She pursued her dream and became an LPN. Former co-workers remember her as being a positive member of the team, showing compassion for those in her care.
Irma loved to garden. She also had one of the largest vase collections, a product of hours searching sales and auctions with her husband.
Irma and Arden raised two sons: Micheal Pedersen and partner Ron Turner from St. Louis, MO and Bryon and Nancy Pedersen of Aurora, SD. She also was blessed with two grandsons: Alex Pedersen and fiance` Kristina Hare from North Sioux City, SD and Connor Pedersen from Toledo, OH.
Other survivors include her siblings, Ellen Troska of Mission, TX, Loren and Dianne Alexander of Cresco, IA and Gary and Linda Alexander of Brookings, SD.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services for Irma will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington with Pastor Elisa McMullen officiating, burial will be in the Arlington City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington and preceding services in the church on Saturday.
