Items stolen from vehicles, pub crawl generates arrests

BROOKINGS – Items were stolen from two vehicles Sunday and the annual pub crawl generated the expected alcohol-related arrests this weekend, according to the Brookings Police.

The thefts were reported at 9:42 a.m. Sunday and occurred in the 1800 block of Oriole Trail, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.

“Two vehicles were entered, one of which was parked in the garage and one which was parked in the driveway,” Powers said.

“I believe that they were both unlocked,” he said, adding there was no indication of forced entry on the vehicles or garage.

Among the items taken was a battery jump pack, valued at $250.

As far as the annual pub crawl on Saturday, it was “nothing out of the ordinary,” Powers said. “Alcohol-related offenses is what we ended up dealing with.”

From Saturday to early Sunday, officers made two DUI arrests.

“There were some underage consumption arrests. There was a disorderly conduct arrest. An incident of an unwanted person at a residence,” he said.

That person was arrested for failure to vacate after notice to leave.

“They showed up at a residence. They thought they were someplace else. Alcohol was a factor in that one, too,” Powers said.
