SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State swimming and diving received two weekly honors from the Summit League on Tuesday with Emily Pincus earning Women’s Swimmer of the Week and Zach Boyd taking home Men’s Diver of the Week.
The honor is the first for Pincus in her time at SDSU as she gets off to a strong start in her junior year. Boyd also nets the award for the first time after what was only the second meet of his collegiate career.
At the USD Quad-Duals over the weekend, Pincus won the 200 free in 1:52.87 and the 500 free in 5:03.42 on Day 1 of the event while also taking third place in the 400 medley relay with the team’s ‘A’ squad.
On Day 2, Pincus once again won the 500 free (5:04.40) while placing second in the 200 free (1:54.10) and second with the 400 free relay “A” team (3:34.24).
“Emily is quickly having a breakout year and I believe this is only the beginning of the success she will have this season,” SDSU coach Doug Humphrey said.
The freshman diver qualified for NCAA Zones with a score of 322.25 while also taking first place in the 3-meter dive during Day 2 of the event. He also placed second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 275.55 in the second day of the event.
Boyd placed second in the 1-meter dive on day one of the event with a score of 289.50 and scored a 272.40 to finish third in the 3-meter.
“We had a really great showing for all of our divers at the quad duals this past weekend and for Zach to come in and get Summit League diver of the week as a freshman just proves we’re moving in the right direction this season,” diving coach Elyse Brouillette said.
