Jackrabbit women get first win, men blown out

SIOUX FALLS – The Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan were able to hang around with South Dakota State for one half, but it was all Jackrabbits in the second half as SDSU came away with a 77-46  victory.

SDSU went into halftime up 34-32. The Jacks then went 23-2 run to start the third quarter and outscored the Tigers 30-7 in the quarter. SDSU then cruised in the fourth quarter to pick up their first victory of the season.

SDSU’s Paiton Burckhard led all scorers with 23 points. She also had four rebounds. Tagyn Larson had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists. Myah Selland had nine points, eight rebounds and five steals.

SDSU will face Montana State on Thursday at 7 p.m. for their home opener at Frost Arena.

Men

 Nebraska 90, South Dakota State 73

LINCOLN – It was all Nebraska from the opening tip as the Cornhuskers blew out South Dakota State 90-73 Friday night.

This was Nebraska’s first win of the season. They lost the season opener to University of Califorinia Riverside 66-47 and then lost to Southern Utah 79-78 in double overtime. This was the Jackrabbits second loss of the season as they dropped to 3-2.

The Huskers jumped out to a 12-2 lead and didn’t look back. They led to 51-27 at halftime.

The Jacks played better in the second half, outscoring the Huskers 46-39. Doug Wilson led the Jacks with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Trey Buchanan had 23 points and Brandon Key had 12.

This ends a three-game road trip for the Jacks. They will return home Tuesday and will take on North Alabama at 7 p.m.
