SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State women’s golf was tabbed to finish third in the Summit League preseason poll released Thursday.

The women’s team received 36 votes and one of the eight first place votes. The 2019-20 season was cut short and there was no Summit League Championship last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the teams did not have a fall season. The Jackrabbits finished third at the 2019 Summit League Championship.

Denver was predicted to win the 2021 Summit League Championship for the seventh-consecutive time with 49 total points and seven first place votes. Oral Roberts was selected to finish second with 37 points. North Dakota State was fourth in the poll with 34 points while the final four teams featured South Dakota (25 points), Omaha (19), North Dakota (13) and Western Illinois (11).

Teresa Toscano was named one of eight golfers to watch this season.

The senior is the SDSU record holder with a 73.7 career stroke average. She averaged 72.84 on a total of 19 rounds last season. Toscano has 25 career top-10 finishes, 17 career top-5 finishes and four collegiate victories. Toscano chose to use the additional year of eligibility that the NCAA granted to student-athletes that missed the spring season last year. Last summer, she earned an exemption into the U.S. Women’s Amateur where advanced to the round of 16 match play.

South Dakota State returns to action Feb. 19-21 as they travel to Greensboro, Ga. to compete in the Reynolds Lake Oconee Collegiate.
