Jackrabbits break four track and field school records over weekend

Four Jackrabbits broke school records in track and field action over the weekend.

Ellie Friesen turned in a double-PR weekend, including a new school record in the women’s 1,500-meter run at the Joe Walker Invite in Oxsford, MIss. Friesen posted a time of 4 minutes, 21.15 seconds – 13.26 faster than her previous best.

She added a 2:11.89 in the 800 – 3.24 clear of her previous mark.

South Dakota State’s school record holder in the 100-meter hurdles, Jaymie O’Connor ran a new PR of 13.59 seconds in prelims of the USD Challenge. Her previous best was a 13.70 clocking.

Coby Hilton clocked a 10.23 for a .16 improvement and a victory in the 100-meter dash and also anchored SDSU speedsters Manny Phoulom-Smith, Jake Werner and Daniel Clarke to a 40.37 4x100 for the second-fastest time in school history.

Finally, Evan Hieber scored 6,454 points in the decathlon and is now 20th in the nation in the mult-event. 

Joe Walker Invite

OXFORD, Miss. – Leah Hansen ran a 16:18.80 5K and took over SDSU’s second-best time in program history and also set the facility record at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex. 

USD Challenge

VERMILLION – Trevor Begeman won the shot put with a heave of 57 feet, 5 3/4 inches – the second-best mark all-time at SDSU.

Jim Duncan Invite

DES MOINES, Iowa – Joseph Minor-Williams finished second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:19.80.
