BROOKINGS – South Dakota State and Iowa State played 110 scoreless minutes during women’s soccer action on a wet and breezy Friday at Fishback Soccer Park.

Jackrabbit goalkeeper Maggie Smither made seven saves, while the Cyclones’ Dayja Schwichtenberg recorded two.

“This was the most complete that Maggie's played this year,” coach Brock Thompson told SDSU Sports Information. “Aside from the big saves, I was excited how connected she was to our back line and how quick she was off her line."

ISU outshot SDSU 13-12 overall and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

SDSU’s Kyli Nelson and Rachel Hewitt both attempted three shots, and Jennie Scislow and Leah Manuleleua had two apiece. Two of Hewitt’s shots were on goal.

"I loved the energy we played with in the second half,” Thompson added. “I thought we did a good job coming out of the locker room and playing with championship effort. We were able to translate defensive intensity into some really good offensive chances. Iowa State's a great team, they were a top-50 RPI team last year and they challenged us in some certain ways and were able to get behind us a couple of times, and Maggie made some great saves. We had a couple of really good chances in their 6-yard box as well."

For the Cyclones, Courtney Powell took four shots and Emily Steil three, as both players put a pair on goal. Brooke Tasker had three shots, including one on goal.

South Dakota State’s record moved to 1-3-1, including a 1-0-1 mark at home. The Jackrabbits head to Omaha to face Creighton on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Cyclones (1-3-1) beat the Bluejays at home in their season opener on Aug. 18.
