BROOKINGS – Douglas Wilson scored 30 points and added 10 rebounds to complete the double-double as South Dakota State defeated Samford 86-77 Wednesday night at Frost Arena.
He scored on an assist from Brandon Key to make it 81-77 with 1:18 remaining and then sealed the deal with a putback – and-one – with 33 seconds showing on the clock.
Wilson went 10-of-16 from the field and 10-of-12 at the free-throw line.
Neither team led by more than nine, and there were nine lead changes and nine ties.
SDSU was up 43-38 at halftime and the second saw a back-and-forth affair. The Bulldogs’ last advantage came at 70-69 with 7:40 remaining.
Jackrabbit freshman Noah Freidel went 5-of-9 from 3-point range and scored 20 points.
Alex Arians added 12 points, Matt Dentlinger eight, and Brandon Key (six assists) and Tray Buchanan six apiece. Buchanan played seven minutes off the bench.
SDSU (6-3) opens a three-game road trip with a matchup with Indiana on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Bloomington.
