Jackrabbits rally in 5 to beat UND

Troy Maroney/Register Crystal Burk hits over a block attempt by UND’s Roosa Rautio during the third set of the Jackrabbits’ 3-2 Summit League win over the Fighting Hawks on Tuesday at Frost Arena.

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State pulled out a 20-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 15-7 Summit League volleyball win over North Dakota on Tuesday at Frost Arena.

Ashlynn Smith recorded 23 kills and added 1 1/2 blocks for the Jackrabbits. Makenzie Hennen totaled 10 kills, two aces and 20 digs. Crystal Burk added 10 kills, 1 1/2 blocks, an ace and 15 digs. Sierra Peterson also collected 10 kills.

Maddie Fay (29) and Mattison Munger (21) combined for 50 set assists. Fay also had a pair of aces, while Payton Richardson recorded 2 1/2 blocks (one solo) to go with six kills. Ellie Thein came up with 15 digs.

For the Fighting Hawks (13-15, 5-7), Jordan Vail had 17 kills, Darian Chwialkowski 16 and Ashley Brueggeman 14. Roosa Rautio dished out 52 set assists and Alivia Fraase notched 28 digs.

SDSU (5-20, 2-10) plays at Omaha on Friday at 7 p.m.
