South Dakota State volleyball coach Dan Georgalas has announced the addition of Joslyn Richardson to the team for the upcoming season.

Richardson, a Sioux Falls native, will enroll as a freshman at SDSU this fall.

“With the addition of Joslyn Richardson, our 2023 class just got better,” said Georgalas. “Joslyn is such a well-rounded player that it’s likely she’ll help us in multiple areas. Rounding out a freshman class of six, Joslyn’s overall skill in reception, defense, and attacking will only improve our position groups. When you speak with her, it’s like you’re speaking to adult. She’s extremely mature and possesses some advanced leadership abilities.”

Richardson will join the Jackrabbits following a standout career at Sioux Falls Washington High School. She is an all-around player that averaged 4.0 kills and 4.0 digs per set as a senior.
Richardson is an AVCA All-America honorable mention and three-time South Dakota all-state selection. She was named to the Argus Leader Super Six squad as a junior and senior and has been an all-conference pick three times. Richardson was a finalist for the Gatorade Player of the Year honor in 2021. She was selected to the South Dakota all-state tournament team in her senior year.

Richardson owns the Washington High career records for serve-receive percentage and kills as well as the record for single-match kills. She is the only player in school history to tally 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.

Off the court, Richardson is a member of the National Honor Society and Circle of Courage. She has earned scholar-athlete honors all four years of high school and is on the 4.0 honor roll.

Richardson has a number of family ties to South Dakota State athletics. Among others, her cousin, Sydni Schetnan, is already a member of the volleyball team and another cousin, Ellie Benson, is a volleyball alum. Richardson is the daughter of Greg and Lynette Richardson. She plans to study Spanish and construction management at SDSU.

Richardson joins a 2023 recruiting class including Brogan Beck, Rylee Martin, McKenna Moehrle, Stella Winterfeld and Sylvie Zgonc.
