Jacks, Fighting Hawks play to 1-1 draw

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – South Dakota State and North Dakota played to a 1-1 draw during a women’s soccer match played in heavy rain Friday afternoon at Bronson Field.

Nicole Hatcher scored on an assist from Carina McLennan and Leah Manuleleua just 4 minutes into the game to stake the Jackrabbits to a 1-0 lead.

The Fighting Hawks pulled even in the 54th minute via Katie Moller’s goal. Megan Wright and Mara Yapello were credited with assists.

SDSU’s Maggie Smither made nine saves in 110 minutes of action. UND’s Catherine Klein had 13 saves.

The Jackrabbits outshot the Fighting Hawks 30-16, including 14-10 on goal. SDSU took 12 corner kicks and UND four.

South Dakota State’s record is now 2-4-3, while North Dakota is 2-3-2 following a 2-0 start.

It marked the second meeting between the nonconference foes this season, as the Jackrabbits beat the Fighting Hawks 1-0 on Aug. 25 in Brookings in a match that ended after 71:26 due to lightning.
