Jacks pick up first loss to USC

LOS ANGELES – In its second game in California in four days, South Dakota State men's basketball picked up its first loss of the season losing to USC 84-66. 

The Trojans jumped out to a 26-10 lead in the first half. SDSU outscored USC 21-12 in the final six minutes of the first half and went into the locker room down 38-31.

The Jacks would then cut the lead to 40-39 and 45-44, but never took the lead. The Trojans then went on an 11-0 run to take a 56-44 lead and wouldn’t look back as the closest the Jacks would get would be 59-56.

Doug Wilson led the Jackrabbits with 15 points and three rebounds. Brandon Key had eight points, four rebounds and three assists. David Wingett had 10 points and Baylor Scheierman had nine. Matt Dentlinger had seven points and four rebounds.

The Trojans (3-0) were led by Nickl Rakocevic who had 27 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and two blocks. Onyeka Okongwu had 12 points and eight rebounds. Jonah Matthews had 14 points and Max Abonkpolo had nine.

SDSU will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Huskers have had a rough start to the season as they have lost their first two games. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted at on Big Ten Network.
