Jacks roll over Bison, 85-64

FARGO, N.D. – The South Dakota State women’s basketball team used six players scoring in double figures to power its way to an 85-64 win over North Dakota State in Summit League action Thursday night at the Scheels Center.

Ellie Thompson scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Jackrabbits (18-5, 7-1). Madison Guebert scored 14 points while Alexis Alexander tallied 13 points. Macy Miller, Tagyn Larson and Tylee Irwin each scored 10 points.

Thompson and Alexander both grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. 

The Bison (8-14, 1-7) were led by Sarah Jacobson’s 16 points as Reilly Jacobson and Michelle Gaislerova had 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Seven Jackrabbits scored in the first as they built a 21-10 lead at the end of the quarter.

SDSU opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run and pushed the lead to 33-12 after Irwin sank a pair of free throws with 6:02 to play. The score stood at 45-31 at halftime.

Like she did to start the game, Alexander opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer to put SDSU up 48-31.

Thompson then took over, outscoring North Dakota State 10-5 in the quarter. The senior collected a pair of traditional 3-point plays and SDSU had a 70-42 lead at the end of the quarter. 

The Jackrabbits built a 29-point lead with 7:49 to play when Miller converted on a layup.

South Dakota State plays at Omaha on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Notes: Miller moved from 19th to 18th in the Summit League with 1,535 career points, passing Western Illinois’ Ashley Luke (1,531 from 2012-15). … Irwin, a freshman from Wahpeton, N.D. – the only Jackrabbit from North Dakota in program history – averaged 11.5 points in the two regular-season matchups with NDSU. She added nine points versus UND. … Guebert is 28th in SDSU history with 1,190 points. Thompson, who started her 100th career game, has 1,171 points. … SDSU freshman Myah Selland missed her fifth consecutive game.
