Jacks take third at UEC Championship

DALLAS, Texas – The No. 4 South Dakota State equestrian team topped No. 2 UT Martin 8-8 in a tiebreak (2267.25-1894) to take third place at the United Equestrian Conference Championship.

“We showed up to ride as a collective team and put down some confident rides,” head coach Ellie Wilkins said. There are still tweaks we need to make to get prepared for nationals but we were happy to come a way with the win today.”

In Equitation over Fences, Jessica Martinez garnered the lone point for State, defeating Monika Zoromski, 158-139.

The Jacks and the Skyhawks tied in Reining, 2-2. Seniors Miranda Sullivan and Mariah Wright scored the two points for SDSU. Sullivan dropped Liana Nowak, 140.5-131.5, while Wright upended Noel Meadows, 144.5-0.

Senior Taylor Duerr won the lone point in Equitation on the Flat with a 123-108 victory over Quinn Reed.

SDSU swept Horsemanship, 4-0 to tie up the meet. Nichole Zazula defeated Devon Woods, 144-143, while Rylee Streit topped Bobbie Piddock 144-134.5. Jordan Gates upended Lucy Eier, 148-137. As it came down to the final point, Whitney Vesey dropped Bailey Newlin 144.5-144 to claim the final point.

Up Next – The Jacks will compete at the 2018 NCEA National Championship April 18-21 in Waco, Texas.

Jacks fall in semis to SMU

DALLAS, Texas - The No. 4 South Dakota State equestrian team dropped a 15-1 decision to No. 1 SMU on Friday afternoon in the semifinal round of the United Equestrian Conference Championship.

The Mustangs swept Fences and Flat, resulting in an 8-0 overall Hunt Seat score.

In Horsemanship, Whitney Vesey garnered the lone point for the Jacks, upending Kara Vickery, 143-134. Rylee Streit was upended 147-144.

The Jacks fought hard in Reining, but fell short, 4-0. Jordan Gates dropped a 139.5-137 decision, while Mariah Wright fell 143-140. Catelyn Hall scored a 141 and Miranda Sullivan a 137.5.
