Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Tom - Brookings

Jacqueline “Jackie” Tom, age 84, of Brookings, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, at the Brookings Hospital.  

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Brookings.  A time of visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, at Eidsness Funeral Home.  Following her wishes, Jacqueline will be returned to Hawaii following her services.

Jackie was born on May 8, 1935, to Arthur and Bernice (Chang) Chun in Honolulu, Hawaii.  She had five siblings; Juliette Lum, Phyllis Takatsuka, Calvin Chun, Helena Chun, and Loretta Gerzina.  Jackie graduated from McKinley High School in Honolulu, HI, in 1953.  After high school, Jackie attended St. Francis Nursing School, and graduated from there in 1956.  She began working for the St. Francis Hospital after her graduation.

Jackie married her high school sweetheart, Clarence Y. Tom, on February 1, 1958.  After their marriage, the couple moved to Brookings, where they started their family.  Jackie also worked for the Brookings Hospital while taking care of her family.  She eventually worked alongside her husband at Tom’s TV and Electronic Supply.

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and co-business partner.  Jackie was an avid artist, especially known for her cross stich. She was a world traveler; vacationing in Bermuda, Jamaica, Greece, France, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Japan, China, Costa Rica, Mexico, Nova Scotia, Panama, and a majority of the continental United States including Alaska. Jackie adored her pets and was a devoted dog parent to Millie 1, Millie 2, and Willie.  She lived a virtuous, moral, and Christian Life, and was never afraid to be outspoken in what she believed.  Blessed be her memory. May her soul shine bright in Heaven.

Survivors include her children, Lorraine Tom, Lenora (Tim) Ibia, Terence (Mary) Tom, and Lynette (Donovan) Johnson; and her grandchildren: Heather Leach, Jacob Leach, Chase Ibia, and Sophia Tom.
