James Jones Jr., 72, of Brookings, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, died Monday, May 8, 2017, at the Brookings hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
James was born on Aug. 23, 1944, in Sioux City, to James and Marie (Foley) Jones Sr. He honorably served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in France and Germany.
Soon after he returned from service, Jim met Susan Pint and they were united in marriage on Sept. 7, 1968, in Sioux City.
He enjoyed employment and spending time at The Park Bowl where he valued the many friendships he gained. For 20 years, he made his career at C.W. Suter. After his retirement, he continued in the accounting field at Ike's in North Sioux City, and The Elks Lodge in Sioux City.
Lastly, Jim fulfilled his ultimate passion with athletics and served as the executive director for Siouxland Youth Athletics.
Jim enjoyed golfing, playing softball, bowling, and keeping stats at sporting events. Along with his cherished friend, Chuck Day, they coached and mentored their daughters’ softball teams. He also coached his son's basketball team. Later in life, he treasured watching his grandkids in their various sporting activities.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Susan Jones of Brookings; daughters, Jessica (Rick Dominowski) Jones-Sitzmann of Sioux City, and Heather (Pat) Ammann of Brookings; son, Matthew (Alyson) Jones of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; sisters, Connie Sorbe and Pat Lewis; aunt, Kathleen O'Connor; uncle, Francis Foley; brother-in-law, Tim (Sharron) Pint; sister-in-law, Carol Pint; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, James A. Jones III; mother and father-in-law, Carol and Darlene Pint; sister, Kay Peterson; and brothers-in-law, Eldon Sorbe, Jim Lewis and Brian Pint.
