Janet Moe, age 92, of Brookings, passed away at The Neighborhoods March 15, 2019. We miss our beloved mom, sister, grandma, and friend. We thank God he gave us many years to cherish her.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26 at Bethel Baptist Church in Brookings. Visitation is 5–7 p.m. Monday, March 25 at Eidsness Funeral Home. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in White at a later date.

Janet was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Hendricks, Minnesota to John and Lena (Kruse) Hulsebus. She lived in the White/Toronto area, attending Rural School District #60.

When she was 9, her mom died so Janet helped manage the household and raise her siblings while her dad and brothers farmed. She later worked as a mother’s helper for the Rogness family where she caught the eye of ElRoy Moe, and they married Oct. 13, 1945. She gardened, canned, and baked the best bread while they farmed in the White/Astoria area and then moved to Brookings in 1964. She worked at the Brookings Hospital, retiring in 1978.

Janet learned to crochet and kept her family stocked with afghans, doilies, and hangers. Her hand-embroidered flour sack dish towels are a work of art.

What Janet cherished most was time with family. She enjoyed teatime and playing Rook. She loved her flower gardens, baking, Bible study, praying, lunch with friends, Sunday drives in the country, geraniums, peonies, babies, and puppies. People were uplifted just by being around her. She chose to believe the best about everybody, and she taught us to be kind, never judge, and to always forgive.

Janet’s immediate survivors who will keep her legacy alive, are son Norrill (Marilyn) Moe; daughter Linda Moe; brother Johnnie Hulsebus; six grandchildren, Tammy Moe Hanson, Eugene (Danielle) Moe, Danielle (John) Griesenbrock, Heidi (Will) Thomssen, Staci Perry (Jason Mergenthal), Kalli Perry (Josh Reisetter); 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Ruth Hulsebus; and brothers-in-law Carroll (Diann) Moe, and Lyle Aaberg.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years; sister Irene Franken; brothers Elmer Hulsebus, infant Raymond Hulsebus; and great-granddaughter Amanda Jo Thomssen.

Thank you to Janet’s family and friends who spent time with her the last few years. She so loved your visits – adding pieces to her puzzle on the table, telling stories and sharing pictures of her grandchildren. She returned to her heavenly home, praising the Lord in her last breaths.
