Johnsons win SDGA Husband-Wife

ABERDEEN – Brookings native Morgan (Fitts) Johnson and Justin Johnson won the SDGA Husband-Wife Championship for the second time over the weekend at Moccasin Creek.

The Watertown residents shot 1-under-par 143, carding a 72 in the select shot format Saturday and 71 in the Chapman format Sunday.

They also were victorious at Hillsview in Pierre in 2017.

Morgan, who won the Match Play and Amateur titles in 2013, is now a five-time SDGA champion.

Sioux Falls’ Betsy and Rob Dewit were second at 146 (72-74).

Tying for third at 148 were Brookings’ Kelly (Evans) and Brodie Hullinger and Dallas (Willman) and Chris Brozik.

The Hullingers, the runners-up in the event the previous three years, shot 77-71.

The Broziks shot 74-74.

Aberdeen’s Megan and Eric Payne rounded out the top five with a 149 (76-73) total – eight ahead of sixth place.

Mary (Wheeler) and Mike Neuroth won the SDGA Senior Husband-Wife Championship by 10 strokes with a 36-hole score of 5-over 149 (72-77).

Rapid City’s Shirley and Gordon Sorenson placed second at 159 (83-76).
