Josie Olsen leads Dolphins to DVC cross-country team title

WHITE – The Deubrook Area girls ran to three of the top four spots as the Dolphins claimed the team title at Wednesday’s Dakota Valley Conference cross country meet at Six Mile Creek Golf Course.

Josie Olsen led the Dolphins with a top time of 21 mintues, 1.72 seconds as teammate Ellie Olsen crossed in 21:48.94 for second. Colman-Egan’s Reese Luze prevented the sweep with a third-place finish of 22:43.81 while Andrea Vandermeer placed fourth in 23:32.75 to close out Deubrook’s team score of seven points as the Hawks placed second with 27 points.

Dell Rapids St. Mary totaled 14 points en route to the boys’ championship as the Cardinals’ Jacob Vogel captured medalist honors in 18 minutes, 44.12 seconds. The host Dolphins were second with 24 points, led by Aczel Garcia’s fifth-place finish.

Riley Benning of Estelline/Hendricks placed second in 19:22.28 as the Redhawks finished fourth.

Baylor Beck of De Smet, crossed in 19:23.47 for third to help lead the Bulldogs to a third-place finish.
