Joyce Marilyn Schweitzer, 88, of Belle Fourche and formerly of Parker died Oct. 6, 2017, at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Community.

She was born Jan. 3, 1929 in Flandreau to Lynn and Vivian Erickson.  She went to Rural Gala No. 23 School until the eightth grade and graduated from high School at Egan.  She lived with her parents until moving to Sioux Falls in 1947 where she worked for the Manchester Biscuit Company for seven years.  

Joyce married Jerome Schweitzer on June 30, 1954, in Sioux Falls.  They moved to a farm in Moody County in 1956 and continued living near Brookings for 30 years.  She worked at the Coast to Coast in Brookings for 10 years.  They retired and moved to Parker in 1987.  She worked part time in Parker at various jobs.  They moved to Belle Fourche in April of 2007.  She had a great love for flowers and animals.

She is survived by her husband, Jerome Schweitzer of Spearfish; son, Gary Schweitzer of Benson, Arizona; daughters, Pam (Dale) Olson of Whitewood, Deb (Leonard) Burtzlaff of Whitewood and Val Fowler of Belle Fourche; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Wattnam of Scottsdale, Arizon and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Vivian and a sister, Lynette Hersrud.

Visitation will be one hour before services at the church.  A funeral liturgy will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Belle Fourche.  Interment will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
