BROOKINGS – Members of the Brookings community will gather for a Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration starting at 5 p.m. Friday, June 19. The event will take place at the Pioneer Park bandshell, at Sixth Street and First Avenue, Brookings.
The Juneteenth celebration will feature local African American and Native American unity dances, readings of the Emancipation Proclamation, responses and historical perspectives, and a panel discussion.
All Brookings community members are invited to join in the celebration. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets, and picnic dinners. There will be bottled water, hand sanitizer, and masks available at the event.
