Junior Blizzard win Combat Cup

The Junior Blizzard won the Sioux Falls Division of the NHG Combat Cup on Aug. 3-5 at Scheels IcePlex. Five Brookings players – Egan Jensen, Cooper Deatherage, Jacob Law, Jacob Peterson and Jordan Raatz – were on the team.

The Junior Blizzard beat the South Dakota Kings, Western Wranglers and Wolverines. They matched up with the Wolverines again in the championship game and prevailed with another victory. The Junior Blizzard outscored their four opponents a combined 37-6.

In its inaugural year as a summer hockey team, the Junior Blizzard have participated in three tournaments held in Minnesota and South Dakota, and will compete in the Easton Cup in a few weeks in Minneapolis. The squad consists of skaters from Brookings, Mitchell, Pierre, Sioux Falls, Watertown, and Worthington, Minn.
