The Ice Cats got on the scoreboard first, but then it was all Rangers as the home team responded with four goals in the first; added six in the second; and then tacked on five more in the third for the 15-1 win.

Riley Jacobsen tied the game at 1-1 just 26 seconds after Brandon Valley’s goal off an assist from Jordan Svobodny.

Carter Shoup sandwiched a pair of goals around a tally by Svobodny - the first unassisted and the second a power-play goal set up by Jack McCarty and Jamison Honkomp. Jacobsen and Luc Bouchard assisted on Svobodny’s goal as the Rangers led 4-1 after one.

Brookings scored four goals in the first six minutes of the second period as Noah Ronning, assisted by Kane Kurtenbach and Carter Merritt, started the onslaught. Kobe Ischen notched an unassisted short-handed goal before Noah Drew scored an unassisted power-play goal.

Kurtenbach then sandwiched two goals around another Drew unassisted tally as Merritt assisted on both of Kurtenbach’s goals as the Rangers upped their advantage to 9-1 through two.

Brookings scored its final six goals over the last half of the third period as Bouchard opened the scoring with an unassisted goal before Ischen found the back of the net off an assist from McCarty. Kobe Hai set up another Kurtenbach goal, and then Shoup lit the lamp with Ischen and McCarty earning the assists. Trevor Pederson provided for the final margin with just six seconds remaining as Kurtenbach picked up the helper.

Philip Kuechenmeister earned the win in goal with nine saves as the Rangers held a 52-10 advantage in shots.
