BROOKINGS – Mitchell topped Watertown for the team title and the host Bobcats finished third in the Eastern South Dakota Conference Gymnastics Meet on Saturday at Bob Jostad Gymnasium.
The defending-champion Kernels finished with a team score of 145.8. The Arrows had a 144.125.
Brookings posted a 138.15 and Yankton (133.725) was fourth.
Watertown’s Myah Morris won the all-around with a score of 37.425. Mitchell’s Kaylee Bauder (36.825) and Maria Krall (36.55) were second and third, respectively. Watertown’s Erica Hageman (35.925) was fourth and Pierre’s Mikah Moser (34.95) fifth.
Bobcat Lily Siemonsma ended up sixth in the all-around with a 34.2. Sierra Stevens was ninth at 33.4.
Morris (9.7) won the vault, Bauder (9.3) finished first on the beam, Krall (9.6) was tops on the bars and Hageman (9.55) prevailed on the floor.
Rachel Gannon had the Bobcats’ best finish of the day, tying for fifth on the floor after earning a score of 9.3. She is the defending state champ in the event.
Stevens placed seventh on the beam with an 8.775.
Siemonsma was ninth on the bars at 8.775 and Cydne Munson tied for 10th with an 8.55.
Gannon paced Brookings on the vault with an 8.925, putting her in 11th.
The Class AA and Class A State Gymnastics Meets are Friday and Saturday at the Swiftel Center in Brookings.
Notes: Mitchell and Watertown have combined to win the last 19 ESD titles – the Arrows have 11 championships and the Kernels eight.
