Funeral services for Kevin D. Reuer, 58, of Reliance, will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Reliance Cemetery at Reliance. Visitation was Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain.
Kevin D. Reuer, 58, of Reliance passed away on July 4, 2018, at Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain.
Kevin D. Reuer was born Jan. 26, 1960 in Chamberlain, to Richard and Viola (Kindopp) Reuer. He was the fourth of six children who grew up on the ranch southeast of Reliance. Kevin attended grade school at Cooper School located south of the ranch. He graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1978. He was active in football, wrestling, and summer baseball.
Kevin was enrolled at SDSU for a semester living in the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity while in Brookings.
Kevin took great pride in farming and ranching with his dad until a near fatal car accident in October of 1987 put that dream on hold. After his return home to the ranch, he was forced to scale back his operations due to his permanent disability. Kevin enjoyed having a nice pickup and kept them in immaculate condition. He enjoyed going to the Reliance Gas Station almost every day. He would drink his favorite “Coke” while refilling the pop cooler and doing odds and ends for Cassidy and Lowell Hieb. He spent many hours shooting the breeze with the crew at the station.
He enjoyed living on the ranch and taking his mom to get groceries and picking up lunch for them until he was no longer able.
Kevin enjoyed being around his nieces and nephews on the ranch. When his nephews from California would visit the ranch he made sure to take them out for a good steak and a couple beverages.
Kevin enjoyed hunting, feeding cattle, farming and ranching. He was very good at fabricating items that the farm could use to make a job easier.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Viola of Reliance; his brothers, Darrel (Margaret) Reuer of Iroquois, Rod (Brenda Burull) Reuer of Chamberlain, Keith (Leslie) Reuer of Reliance; a sister, Gloria (Kelly) Koerlin of Volga and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his paternal and maternal grandparents, Gottleib and Martha Reuer and Edward and Christina Kindopp; his father, Richard Reuer; and a brother, Kenneth Reuer.
