Kimberly Joy was born on July 14, 1975, to Eugene and Bertha (Atwood) Clark in Hendricks, MN. She grew up on the family farm 12 miles north of Elkton. She was the oldest of 6 children, and had the tough responsibility of keeping them in line. She enjoyed taking her 5 younger siblings on special outings such as camping trips and concerts. Kim graduated from Elkton High School in 1993. She later graduated from SDSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
Kim worked in healthcare for most of her life. She was compassionate and always put others before herself. This act of selflessness was felt by the people she cared for. In high school, she started as a CNA at the Hendricks Nursing Home. Kim later worked for Advance in Brookings; a job she truly enjoyed where she built long lasting and beautiful relationships. She was also very proud of being an EMT for the Elkton Ambulance and was on the National registry.
Kim married David Christensen on June 28, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkton. Her son Dakota was her world and they loved going on trips together. She loved spending time in the garden, reading, and cooking with her mom. She loved her nieces and nephews and would always make time for them.
Kim will be remembered for her love of butterflies, wolves, music, and movies like It’s a Wonderful Life and the Wizard of Oz. She had a beautiful, gentle and kind soul. She was genuine and in 45 short years made a difference in the hearts of many.
Survivors include her husband, David Christensen; son, Dakota Nygaard; mother, Bertha Clark; father, Eugene Clark; step-children; Makenzie, MaCauley, Colton, and Cayden; siblings, Matt (Jackie) Clark, Adam Clark, Lisa Marie (Kevin) Rybinski, Joey (Brittany) Clark, and Angel (Curt) Ahmann; as well as many nieces and nephews.
