King finishes 23rd at nationals

EUGENE, Ore. – South Dakota State junior Rachel King finished 12th in her heat and 23rd overall in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday evening at Hayward Field.

She had a time of 10 minutes, 27.92 seconds.

The top five finishers in each of the two heats and the next two fastest times qualified for Saturday’s finals.

Boise State’s Allie Ostrander won the semifinal in 9:45.96. The final qualifier crossed in 9:57.72, while the fifth-place finisher in King’s heat had a time of 9:57.19.

King qualified for nationals after taking 10th in the West Preliminary with a school-record time of 9:57.75 on May 25 in Sacramento, Calif.
