BROOKINGS – Robert Kohrman has been chosen to be the vice president of finance and administration at South Dakota State University. His appointment is pending South Dakota Board of Regents’ approval. Kohrman was most recently the vice dean for fiscal affairs at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit.

“Robert’s experience on several college and university campuses and extensive experience with our budget model made him an excellent choice to be our next vice president of finance and administration,” said South Dakota State University President Barry Dunn.

“His breadth and depth of experience with strategic planning and financial leadership will be valued as we embark on our strategic plan, Imagine 2023. I look forward to working together with Robert as we advance SDSU to meet the growing needs of the state, region and beyond.”

While at Wayne State as the vice dean, Kohrman oversaw the School of Medicine’s finances and helped provide leadership during a financial restructuring of the school.

Before serving as vice dean, Kohrman was the associate vice president for budget, planning and analysis for nine years at Wayne State. In that role, he led the annual budget process, provided leadership for the office of institutional research and helped provide leadership on the development of several strategic plans.

In addition, on two different occasions he provided leadership for the office of enrollment management.

“Being part of the culture and community that President Dunn has established is a big reason I wanted to join SDSU,” Kohrman said.

“Working with President Dunn and the leadership team is a great opportunity for me. I look forward to working with the SDSU community to help meet the goals and objectives of the new strategic plan and help enhance the financial picture of the university.”

Before starting at Wayne State University, Kohrman worked for many years at the University of Colorado, ending as the assistant vice president for budget and finance. He has also worked at the University of Michigan, Schoolcraft College and Washtenaw Community College.

Kohrman earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of Michigan. He is also a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers and the Society of College and University Planning,

Kohrman will start at South Dakota State in September.
