BROOKINGS – The Helpline Center recently announced that Shane and Sara Kuehl have been named November 2019 Volunteer of the Month winners, an area-wide award program sponsored by the Helpline Center.

Shane and Sara have been active as both wish granters and event volunteers for seven years with Make-A-Wish.

They volunteer together about once a month and have been on 15 wish teams while taking a lead role on most of them.

They have been on three wish teams just this past year. They work well as members of a wish team and provide leadership throughout the process. Wish granters meet with the family, help the wish child determine the wish, provide wish enhancements and act as a liaison between Make-A-Wish South Dakota staff and the wish family during the wish process. On top of this, Shane and Sara also help out at key events throughout the year.

Kerry Pollema of Make-A-Wish said, “Our mission could not be delivered without the dedication of our hard-working wish granting volunteers. These volunteers are the face of Make-A-Wish for our wish families and are truly at the heart of what we do.

“Sara and Shane joined the Make-A-Wish family as volunteers in 2012. In the seven years with our chapter, they have been on 15 Wish teams. Both have been key contacts in the Brookings area to make local wishes come true. Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to connect with our wish kids and families in the Brookings area.

“Shane and Sara have been on multiple wish teams at once and take the lead on a majority of the teams. They help mentor new volunteers in the wish granting process and provide real world guidance.”
