Lady Elks, Divers, Fliers post wins; Cardinals boys prevail

ELKTON – Elkton-Lake Benton opened up a 13-5 cushion after a quarter, was up 23-18 at halftime and led 43-26 through three en route to a 59-33 defeat of Flandreau Indian School during nonconference girls’ basketball action Tuesday night.

Callie Otkin, who hit three 3-pointers, scored a game-high 18 points and came up with three steals. Rachel Hegerfeld posted a double-double of 12 points and 17 rebounds while also blocking a pair of shots.

Samantha Schindler contributed 11 points, seven boards and four steals. Abygail Landsman totaled six points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals. Marie Robbins also scored six points, Aubrey Wirth four and Autumn Stoltenberg two.

The Lady Indians got 13 points from Kyla Day Rider.

FIS (2-8) heads to Hendricks, Minn., on Thursday. ELB (9-5) plays host to Deubrook on Friday.

• Lake Preston 49, Great Plains Lutheran 42

LAKE PRESTON – The Divers moved ahead 14-11 after 8 minutes, led 28-19 at halftime and were up 37-31 through three.

Ashlyn DeKnikker tallied 15 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Tara Scheidt had 15 points and seven boards.

Lindsay Hillestad added eight points and Karley DeKnikker seven to go with six rebounds and three assists. Breyanna Bunker corralled six rebounds.

Shayla Meseberg led a balanced Panther attack with eight markers.

On Thursday, Lake Preston (7-9) heads to Colman-Egan and GPL (2-11) travels to Wilmot.

• Flandreau 47, Colman-Egan 29

FLANDREAU – The Fliers flew past the Hawks in the Moody County matchup.

Hannah Parsley led the way with 13 points and Mara Lunday added 11.

The Hawks got seven points from Kara Hannasch.

Colman-Egan (8-8) plays host to Lake Preston on Thursday, while Flandreau (9-6) heads to Sioux Valley on Friday.

• Hamlin 55, Arlington 16

ARLINGTON – Lexi Wadsworth posted a double-double of 25 points – on 9-of-13 shooting – and 10 rebounds while adding five steals, three assists and three blocks for the Chargers (13-0), who are ranked No. 2 in Class A.

Hamlin led 16-2 after a quarter, 34-8 at halftime and 45-14 through three. Brynn Alfson added 13 points.

The Cardinals’ Jeryn Christensen had four points and five rebounds.

Hamlin plays host to Webster Area on Thursday. Arlington (1-13) welcomes Dell Rapids St. Mary on Friday.

• Waverly-South Shore 50, Estelline 25

WAVERLY – The Coyotes sprinted out to a 21-6 advantage after a quarter and were up 35-9 at halftime.

Ali Kranz, who grabbed eight rebounds, and Kylie Carpenter scored 13 points apiece. Erin Comes added six points, six boards and five assists.

The Lady Redmen’s Kaitlyn Steffensen had seven points and four boards. Marissa Golas and Kaylee Faehnrich both added six markers.

WSS (9-3) takes on Waubay/ Summit on Thursday in Waubay. Estelline (4-11) heads to Henry to face Florence/ Henry on Monday.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

• Arlington 45, Hamlin 42

ARLINGTON – The Cardinals led 12-10 after a quarter, 26-21 at halftime and 34-33 at the end of three before holding on down the stretch.

Scott Sampson led a balanced attack with 13 points.

Brayden Rowe had 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Devon Heuer added 11 points, nine boards, three assists and a pair of steals.

Will Parry totaled four points, six rebounds and five dimes. Riley Pospisil chipped in with three markers and Tyler Jensen two to go with seven boards.

Hamlin’s John Roe had a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds. Bryce Williams had 12 points and Danny Stande 10.

Arlington (11-2) is host to Dell Rapids St. Mary on Thursday and Hamlin (6-5) welcomes Webster Area on Friday.

• Flandreau Indian School 57, Elkton-Lake Benton 53

ELKTON – Caleb White and Keenan Roubideaux scored 16 points apiece as the Indians held off the Elks.

FIS was up 16-14 after a quarter and 29-28 at halftime, before pushing the advantage to 10 points – 48-38 – through three.

ELB’s Grant DeRuyter finished with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists before fouling out. Cole DeRuyter added 11 points and eight boards. Blaine Hefti chipped in with 10 markers.

ELB (3-9) plays host to Deubrook on Friday and FIS (5-7) heads to Tiospa Zina on Saturday.

• Great Plains Lutheran 51, Lake Preston 50

LAKE PRESTON – The Divers’ comeback came up just short.

They led 12-8 after 8 minutes, before the Panthers went up 24-19 at halftime and 43-32 through three. Lake Preston held an 18-8 scoring advantage in the final frame, but it wasn’t enough.

GPL’s Tristan Scharlemann had 15 points, Aiden Holien 14 and Dylan Duvall 11.

The Divers’ Brock Bumann had 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Paydon Casper added 13 points and Byron Bumann 10. Jack Hasche contributed eight points and nine boards.

Lake Preston (6-8) travels to Colman-Egan on Thursday. GPL (4-9) plays at Wilmot on Friday.

• Waverly-South Shore 55, Estelline 32

WAVERLY – Tony Gross (13) and Dillon Kranz (12) combined for 25 points, while Fisher Spilde and Joe Jellis added eight apiece in the win.

The Coyotes were up 11-5 after a quarter, 32-11 at halftime and 44-19 through three.

The Redmen got eight points and four boards from Tate Lilla. Zach Loomis chipped in with six markers.

WSS (7-5) is host to Waubay/Summit on Friday in Waverly. Estelline (2-12) heads to Great Plains Lutheran on Tuesday.
