Lake Preston drops Wolsey-Wessington

LAKE PRESTON – Wolsey-Wessington rallied from a 32-27 halftime deficit to beat the Divers, 71-64, in nonconference boys’ basketball action on Tuesday night.

Lake Preston was up 17-11 after a quarter on the way to the five-point lead at the intermission before the Warbirds tied the game at 49-49 through three, and then, outscored the home team, 22-15, in the fourth to pull out the win.

Paydon Casper scored 24 points, pulled down eight rebounds, dished out eight assists and blocked two shots for the Divers, who dropped to 0-2 on the season. Jasper Denison added 13 points and eight boards while Byron Bumann had 12 points and nine dimes.

Lynden Williams led all scorers with 26 points as the Warbirds opened their season with the Region 3 win.

Diedrick Offt added 14 points and Skylar Zomer chipped in with 10.

Lake Preston plays host to De Smet on Thursday while the Warbirds take on Highmore-Harrold in Harrold on Friday.

  •  Tea Area 78, Flandreau 48

FLANDREAU – Noah Friedel led a balanced Titan scoring attack with 17 points, Justin Hohn added 16 and Mason Ritter 14 as Tea improved to 2-0.

Flandreau’s Nate Kneebone scored a game-high 20 points to go with eight rebounds and four assists.

Tash Lunday had 12 points, eight boards and three dimes. Connor LeBrun chipped in with 10 markers.

Flandreau (1-1) heads to Beresford on Thursday.

  •  Freeman Academy/Marion 48, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 43

RAMONA – The Bearcats outscored the Raiders 21-6 in the third quarter, turning a five-point deficit into 38-28 advantage entering the final stanza.

Quincy Blue scored 16 points, Thaniel Schroeder 10 and Gavin Pankratz nine for FAM (1-1)

ORR’s Brandon Trygstad finished with 17 points. Taylor Hojer had nine points, Will Matson six and Connor Spilde five.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland (0-2) heads to Dell Rapids St. Mary on Thursday.

GIRLS

  •  Deubrook Area 60, Deuel 37

CLEAR LAKE – Deubrook Area exploded for 20 points in the third quarter to pull away from a 23-20 halftime lead on the way to the 60-37 nonconference win over the Cardinals on Tuesday.

The Dolphins led 17-9 after a quarter before the hosts rallied with an 11-6 advantage in the second to get within three. But the visitors responded with a 20-5 run in the third to go up 43-25 and cruised to the win.

Mattie Nepodal netted 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to go along with three takeaways to lead Deubrook Area, 2-0. Shaylee DeBeer contributed 12 points, four boards, five steals and four assists.

Jaydyn TeGantvoort and Britney Lovre dropped 14 points apiece for Deuel, 0-1, as Sarah Ronne chipped in with a game-high 11 rebounds.

Deuel plays host to Hamlin on Thursday while the Dolphins take on Madison at 3 p.m. in the Entringer Classic at Colman.

COLMAN – Canistota built a 32-13 halftime lead en route to the 10-point nonconference win in the battle of the Hawks on Tuesday night.

The visitors doubled up Colman-Egan, 16-8, after the first 8 minutes on the way to the 19-point halftime lead before the home Hawks rallied in the second half.

Mackenzie Hemmer finished with 20 points to lead the hosts, while Braiden Westley added 13 as Colman-Egan dropped to 1-1.

Jordan Engbrecht scored a game-high 31 points for Canistota, 1-0, as the Hawks shot 54 percent from the field (21-of-39), including 7-of-15 from 3-point range.

Canistota travels to Emery to face Bridgewater-Emery on Friday while Colman-Egan takes on Deuel at noon in the Entringer Classic on its home floor.
