Lakers down Rangers, 4-2


WATERTOWN – The Lakers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Rangers 4-2 during South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association boys’ action Friday night.

Watertown cut the margin in half on C.J. Barton’s goal – assisted by Mitchell Lloyd – late in the second period and then scored three times in the third.

Lloyd knotted the game at 2-all on an assist from RJ Achterberg 92 seconds into the final period.

Mason Evans’ unassisted tally proved to be the game winner with 9:17 remaining.

Coby Steiner added an empty-netter with 30 seconds to play.

Brookings dominated the first period, building a 2-0 lead after outshooting Watertown 14-3.

Carter Shoup found the back of the net with 4:37 to go in the period.

Jamison Honkomp lit the lamp on a power play with 2:03 showing on the clock. Cody Niklason and Ashton Witte were credited with assists.

Jared Fedt made 25 saves to earn the win in goal for the Lakers (1-1).

Brookings’ Philip Kuechenmeister stopped 26 shots.

The Rangers (0-2) are host to Rushmore today at 6:45 p.m. in the Blue Rink and Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in the Red Rink at Larson Ice Center.
