Lane closures planned on Sixth

Work to start on planting, irrigation

BROOKINGS – Beginning Monday, the two lanes adjacent to the median along Sixth Street between 22nd Avenue and 34th Avenue will be closed for the Median Planting and Irrigation Project.

One lane of travel for eastbound and westbound traffic will remain open throughout the project.

Pending any weather delays, the project is anticipated to be complete by Oct. 5. Kerry’s Landscaping & Irrigation is the general contractor. The project will include the installation of irrigation systems, turf seeding, trees and median plantings along Sixth Street between 22nd Avenue and 34th Avenue.

The public is encouraged to use alternate routes and allow ample time to arrive at their destinations. Delays will occur due to the traffic congestion associated with the lane reductions.

The city would like to remind the public to use caution when driving or walking through the project area, especially around work areas under construction. Everyone’s patience is appreciated during the project.

Questions may be directed to the Community Development Office at 692-6629.
