Larsen to make South Dakota premiere at recital

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State University senior Megan Larsen, a music education major from Wolsey, will deliver the South Dakota premiere of “Die genfangene Nachtigall, Op. 11” during her recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Peterson Recital Hall in the Lincoln Music Center on the SDSU campus.

The piece, by Heinrich Proch, is a German chamber piece arranged for a mezzo voice, piano and clarinet.

Larsen, a mezzo, will sing works by Teodoro Cottrau, Manuel de Falla, George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin and Roger Quilter. She will close the recital with a duet with tenor Jonathan Neswick, junior from Sioux City, Iowa. Larsen will be assisted by Tammy Knudtson on piano and Sylvia Larson, a junior from Harrisburg on clarinet.

While at State, Larsen has been part of the SDSU Women’s Choir, Concert Choir, The Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band and the SDSU Opera Workshop.
