Laurel ‘Laurie’ Wiggs – Rapid City

Laurel "Laurie" Wiggs,  59, of Rapid City, and formerly of Watertown, died after a courageous battle with leukemia, on Sunday, April 16, 2017, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.  

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., with the memorial service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Elmer Brinkman officiating.

 Laurel Beth Wiggs was born March 23, 1958, to Russell and Marjorie (Willner) Bailey at Yokota Air Base in Japan.  She attended schools in Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, Ramstein, Germany and San Angelo, Texas.  Laurel graduated from Brookings High School in 1976.  She worked for the Bexar County Sheriff's Department in San Antonio, Texas where she became the first female assigned to patrol in 1985.  

In 1986 Laurie married Milton Wiggs and to this union two children were born, Delaney and Benjamin.

 Laurie graduated from LATI in Watertown in 2002 with an associate’s degree as a physical therapist assistant, and was employed as a PTA for 12 years.

She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed hiking, fishing, painting and 4-wheeling. 

Laurie is survived by her two children, Delaney (Albert) Mackey of San Antonio, Texas, and Benjamin Wiggs of Watertown; grandchildren, Marlie Mackey, Megan (Johnathan) Farias, Morgan (Mark) Reyes and Trei (Julianna) Mackey; five great-grandchildren, Maximilian, Isabella, Lilyana, Jonathan Gage, and Freddy; one brother, James (Yvonne) Bailey of Sioux Falls; her niece, Katie; her nephew, Michael; aunts, Primilla (David) Young and Ada Wear; and her uncle, Tom Bailey.

 Laurie was preceded in death by her parents.
