LaVina Jane (Drake) Anderson, 99,  died Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at the United Living Community in Brookings. 

At the request of LaVina’s family, a private family burial will be held prior to services.  A memorial service will be held at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, beginning at 2 p.m., on Saturday, July 28, with visitation being held one hour prior to service.  

LaVina was born on Nov. 4, 1918, in Madison, the daughter of John and Elen (Johnson) Drake.  She grew up in Northern Minnesota and Madison.  LaVina graduated with a teaching certificate from General Beadle College in Madison, and taught in a country school near Singsaas Lutheran Church, and in Bruce.

LaVina married Clarence W. Anderson at Singsaas Lutheran Church on June 19, 1942, and they were married for 68 years until Clarence died in 2010.  The couple farmed near Oak Lake in Brookings County until 1954, when they moved to Astoria.  

In 1956 the family moved to Brookings, where LaVina worked as a homemaker, day care provider, and colorist for photo studios.  She was known for her cooking, and shared many recipes with family and friends.  She treasured her family, and enjoyed the company of many friends, especially her times with the coffee ladies and others during Bible Study at First Lutheran Church.  

Her strong faith stayed with her all of her days.  

LaVina is survived by her two daughters, Sharon (Mark) Stime of Brookings and Betty (John) Seidel of Woodbury, Minnesota; four granddaughters; nine great-grandsons, eight great-granddaughters, four great-great-granddaughters, two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; daughter, Carol; grandson, Todd Stime and five brothers.
